
2011 MICHIGAN SUGAR QUEEN
...and the 'Sweetest Girl in the World is.... Kelsey Prohaska of Standish. Along with Kelsey, Rene Behlmander of Bay City was crowned 1st runner-up and Kaycee Damm of Bay Port as 2nd runner-up at the 47th Annual Michigan Sugar Festival in Sebewaing on June 17th. All three ladies have many official appearances scheduled throughout the summer and fall of 2011. Events include fairs, festivals and parades around the state.
Kelsey, the daughter of Larry and Lisa Prohaska, is a 2011 graduate of Standish-Sterling Central High School. She will be attending Saginaw Valley State University this fall majoring in Agriculture Business.
First runner-up Rene is the daughter of Paul and Pam Behmlander. Rene is a recent graduate from Bay City Western High School. Rene will be attending Delta College where she is majoring in Business and Communications.
Kaycee, second runner-up, is the daughter of David and Carrier Damm. Kaycee graduated from Laker High School in 2008. Kaycee is attending Albion College where she is majoring in Elementary and Physical Education, with the intend of becoming an Elementary school teacher.
Michigan Sugar Company solely sponsors the Michigan Sugar Queen competition. As the sponsor, the company and grower-owners provide the queen with a $2,000 scholarship for use at the university of her choice. The first and second runners-up will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
